Asriel Dreemurr: The Tragedy of Innocence Lost

Published on 4 April 2025 at 18:56

Asriel was once the golden child of the Underground, literally. Beloved, kind, and full of hope, he had everything going for him. But his tragic transformation into Flowey shows just how fragile innocence can be when ripped from its context.

After his death and rebirth as a soulless flower, Asriel loses not just emotion, but meaning. Without a soul, he can’t feel love or remorse, only remember what those things used to feel like. That memory haunts him, and it turns him into a manipulative shell, trying to recreate connection through control.

But the scariest part? He doesn’t want to be evil. Flowey’s cruelty is a cry for help. In the True Pacifist ending, Asriel briefly returns to himself, and we see the scared, broken kid underneath, the one who just wants his best friend back.

Asriel’s story isn’t just sad, it’s a warning about what happens when someone loses their purpose, their heart, and the people they loved.

In the end, he fades away with a smile. But it’s not a happy ending. It’s a merciful one.
